In collaboration with student researchers at the University of Montana, JTA is excited to announce a research-based resource for evaluating attempted just transitions throughout the globe.

Undergraduate students Anna Dolsen and Ella Macek reviewed just transition movement history and also selected three case studies to identify the challenges and possibilities shaping un/just transitions. They communicated their findings in a StoryMap that employed Just Transition Principles to evaluate diverse case studies in Germany, Alberta, and California. This project emerged from an Environmental Justice Issues and Solutions course taught by JTA Communications Lead Catalina de Onís in the University of Montana’s Environmental Studies Program.

JTA hopes community groups and movement organizers will find generative ideas and resources for approaching the hard work ahead by engaging with this StoryMap. Studying and learning from past efforts, including successes and setbacks, will strengthen our pathmaking toward just transition!
