On January 28, 2026, JTA’s executive director José Bravo, the leadership of Líderes Campesinas, and Valley Improvement Projects‘ Bianca Lopez convened in Oxnard, California, for a training-of-trainers event! This training centered on the Just Transition Alliance’s “Just Markets” Spanish-language workbook, with a focus on toxic chemicals found in dollar store and other “low-cost” retailer products. The training-of-trainers approach understands that we’re all teachers and learners and is designed to provide everyone with tools to provide trainings in their own communities.
In attendance at the Oxnard training were women leaders from all of California up to Sonoma County. The training involved using Yuka and Clearya apps to read toxic ingredient lists in food items and everyday products sold in dollar stores. The gathering also emphasized the power of popular education to take action in local communities. Much appreciation to everyone who contributed to this dynamic experience, including the newly-trained participants who will be doing trainings in their communities throughout California. Many thanks to Bianca Lopez for leading the training and to JTA’s José Bravo for bringing everyone together!
