The Just Transition Alliance is so happy to be a part of the Environmental Justice Communities Against Plastics coalition (EJCAP). Established in 2021, EJCAP tackles every aspect of the “death cycle” of plastic pollution, prioritizing frontline communities’ needs every step of the way. We work to ensure that environmental justice communities are leading just transition strategies and pathways to resolve the plastic pollution crisis, and support developing local, environmentally responsible, zero-waste alternatives led by communities and workers.
Read more about our mission on the shiny new EJCAP website! Beautiful, colorful, and charming – just like our vibrant and resilient frontline communities – this website will soon be populated with news about struggles to build grassroots power that can push back against petrochemical industry lies, successful fights to shut down incinerators and other sites that pollute EJ communities, and thoughtful analyses of the latest developments with California’s SB 54 Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act, especially how EJCAP’s efforts will ensure that resources are equitably distributed to disproportionately harmed communities.
This year is a big one for EJCAP, as we welcome two new member organizations, Black Women for Wellness and Valley Improvement Projects, to the already robust steering committee of East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice, Pacoima Beautiful, Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles, and the Just Transition Alliance, and as the fight for environmental justice in the United Nations Global Plastics Treaty is really starting to heat up. We look forward to sharing more of EJCAP’s activities in the future.
