Apr. 2, 2023–The Just Transition Alliance and members of our COP 27 workers delegation gathered at the Washington State Labor Council for a Training of Trainers.

Earlier this month, The Just Transition Alliance conducted a Training of Trainers at the Washington State Labor Council office in Seattle, where we launched our newly updated and expanded training program titled “Tools for Transformative Change Toward a People’s Economy.”  We were joined by organizers from a number of our sister organizations and allied unions, such as the Teamsters Waste Division, United Steelworkers Local 675, Familias Unidas por la Justicia, Central Florida Jobs with Justice, Physicians for Social Responsibility–Los Angeles and the Indigenous Environmental Network, with whom we both tested our new pedagogy and also built a shared understanding of just transition organizing strategies.

We are so excited to share this new edition of JTA’s flagship training for frontline workers and fenceline communities! It covers the traditional topics of Just Transition and Environmental Justice, plus adds new sections diving deep into the dangers of Corporate Climate Schemes (often referred to as “false solutions”) as well as the implications and opportunities presented by recent federal resolutions, laws and executive orders like the Green New Deal, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and Justice40.

Our amazing future trainers helped us to test-drive our new version of this dynamic popular education program and gave us tons of helpful feedback. We now have a diverse team working on edits, improvements, and additions, and we look forward to making this training publicly available later this summer. We are already organizing future trainings in key communities within our network, and we intend to expand and deepen our work from there.
